Children and Youth
KidsExplore is a children's Christian education program that includes a special time during worship and Sunday morning age-appropriate lessons and activities. Look for summer Vacation Bible School, children's camps at LaForet near Castle Rock, and regular outings.
Youth Ministry provides creative and interesting learning and service opportunities for older children designed especially for participants.
Adult Education
A Program of Adult Education provides opportunity to engage in lively and interesting Biblical and theological exploration and discussion. Recent book study groups have explored critical questions about religion and the church posed by such scholars as Dr. Marcus Borg and Bishop John Shelby Spong. All interested adults are invited to participate.
Fellowship
What is said repeatedly when members are asked what draws them to this church is this: "The people." We are a diverse community who share basic values: a desire for peace which we know can only come by bringing justice. And we love to get together for fellowship. Potlucks, sometimes by the river, sometimes in the woods, sometimes after church indoors, are one of those ways.
Social Justice
The Social Justice Ministry Team seeks out and involves the congregation in education and action for justice and peace in the Gunnison community, our region, and nationally. They initiated the Restorative Justice Program (now Restorative Practices), High School Lunch Program, provided information and action opportunities related to health reform, and designed the Whole Earth Covenant for the congregation.
Music and Worship
Music is a central part of our worship life each Sunday and on special occasions. The Music and Worship Team plans music that supports worship themes, draws members into active contemplation and learning, and helps build community. Team members perform and welcome others to join them in this important ministry.
Community Care
The congregational Care Ministry reflects our concerns for all members and participants, and engages team members in welcome, hospitality, and care during times of illness, grief, and personal/family stress or difficulty. This Ministry is lead by a Team of concerned members, but involves the total congregation in acts of concern and caring.
Stewardship and Finance
All ministries and programs of Gunnison Congregational Church are supported by the work of the Stewardship and Finance Ministry Team that seeks to secure funds needed for our annual operating budget. This support includes stewardship education, motivation, challenge, and encouragement.
