Letter from Brenda:
Moving to Gunnison, Colorado from Ashland, Oregon in May 2008 to become the pastor of this church was a leap of faith, a move that only made sense given the richness of the congregation I relocated to serve.
This enthusiastic intergenerational congregation loves to laugh, discuss, contemplate, sing—and is filled with curious and generous persons. It has been described as a "church for those who don’t do church anymore" because the open theological and social attitudes draw in those who have not felt comfortable in more traditional churches.
The participants in this community have an intense commitment to live out their faith commitment actively. If you attend the church a few times you will notice a steady stream of projects designed to serve the planet, people in need, and even our four-legged friends (we love our puppy Sundays).
The Gunnison Country Times offered local congregations the opportunity to take out an ad for their pastor’s during clergy appreciation week. This is what the church came up with: "God can blow the lid off any box, unfold it and turn it into a dance floor. And this makes us who we are – an open and affirming, just peace, and whole earth covenant church. Thanks to our Pastor, Rev. Brenda Brown, for helping us to enjoy dancing out of the box. I couldn’t be more proud to be affiliated with such a passionate, hard-working and creative group of people who live as the hands and feet of God, blowing the lid off of old stereotypes, and hitting the dance floor together.
No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome to come dance with us!
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
